What the doctor will need from you
So there are no surprises. This is the usual list for this treatment.
Before you travel
Things to gather at home. Photographs of documents are fine — they do not need to be originals.
- Stop wearing contact lenses before you travel
Soft lenses for about two weeks, hard lenses for three to four. Lenses temporarily change the shape of the cornea, and the laser is programmed from that measurement — if you wear them up to the flight, the scan is wrong and the treatment cannot go ahead that trip.
- Your current glasses prescription, and older ones if you have them
The doctor is looking for a number that has stayed roughly the same for a year or two. A prescription still changing is a reason to wait.
- Any previous eye treatment or diagnosisIf you have it
Dry eye, keratoconus in the family, glaucoma, an old injury — each changes what is safe to offer.
After you arrive in Türkiye
The hospital does these. They are included in your package and usually take one morning.
- Corneal map (topography)
A photograph of the exact shape of the surface of your eye. It is what rules keratoconus in or out.
- Corneal thickness measurement
There has to be enough cornea left after the laser. This measurement, more than anything else, decides which technique you are offered.
- Full eye examination with drops
The drops widen the pupil so the retina can be checked. Your vision is blurred for a few hours afterwards, so do not plan anything for that day.
- Tear and dry-eye test
Dry eyes get drier for a while after laser treatment. If yours are already dry it is treated first.
What the doctor will ask you
Worth thinking about before the consultation. Clear answers here save a day.
- How long has your prescription stayed the same?
- Do you wear contact lenses, which type, and when did you last wear them?
- Do your eyes feel dry, gritty or tired at the end of the day?
- Does anyone in your family have keratoconus?
- Do you see halos or struggle with night driving?
- Do you have any autoimmune condition, or diabetes?
- Are you pregnant or breastfeeding? It changes vision temporarily.
You do not have to do this alone
Every patient is different. Once the doctor has read your file they may ask for one or two more things before confirming your plan — that is normal, and it is a sign your case is being looked at properly rather than waved through. If it happens, we tell you exactly what is needed and why, and you will see it added to this list.
If you cannot get a test at home, tell us. Most of them can be done in Türkiye instead, and we will arrange it.
