What the doctor will need from you
So there are no surprises. This is the usual list for this treatment.
Before you travel
Things to gather at home. Photographs of documents are fine — they do not need to be originals.
- Ultrasound or scan of the area
Thyroid, breast and abdominal surgery are all planned from imaging — it decides the incision, the technique and the stay.
- Biopsy or pathology result, if takenIf you have it
For thyroid nodules and breast lumps, the biopsy decides between watching, removing part, or removing all.
- Reports from any previous surgery or treatmentIf you have it
What was done before decides what can be done now. Photographs of the reports are fine.
- A list of every medicine you take
Blood thinners, diabetes medicine and some supplements change how the operation is planned, and a few have to be paused beforehand.
After you arrive in Türkiye
The hospital does these. They are included in your package and usually take one morning.
- The surgeon’s own examination
Scans show the lesion; the examination shows the patient. Both together decide the final plan.
- Blood tests
A blood count, clotting profile, blood sugar, and screening for hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV. Standard before any operation, and usually done the morning you arrive.
- Heart trace (ECG)
Routine for anyone over forty or with a heart history, and quick to do.
- Anaesthesia assessment
The anaesthetist meets you before the operation to check your heart, chest and medicines, and to agree the plan with the surgeon.
What the doctor will ask you
Worth thinking about before the consultation. Clear answers here save a day.
- When was this found, and how — symptoms or a routine check?
- Has it grown or changed since?
- For thyroid: any voice change, swallowing difficulty, or hormone problems?
- Any family history of the same condition?
- Which medicines are you on — especially blood thinners?
You do not have to do this alone
Every patient is different. Once the doctor has read your file they may ask for one or two more things before confirming your plan — that is normal, and it is a sign your case is being looked at properly rather than waved through. If it happens, we tell you exactly what is needed and why, and you will see it added to this list.
If you cannot get a test at home, tell us. Most of them can be done in Türkiye instead, and we will arrange it.
