What the doctor will need from you

So there are no surprises. This is the usual list for this treatment.

Before you travel

Things to gather at home. Photographs of documents are fine — they do not need to be originals.

  • Photos of your hair from five angles

Front, both sides, the top and the back. The doctor counts what is available in the donor area from these, and it decides how many grafts you can have.

  • A list of every medicine you take

Blood thinners, diabetes medicine and some supplements change how the operation is planned, and a few have to be paused beforehand.

  • Report from any previous transplantIf you have it

How many grafts were taken before, and from where. It changes what the donor area can still give.

  • Stop minoxidil about a week before

It affects bleeding during the procedure. Your doctor will confirm the exact timing, and will tell you which other medicines to pause.

After you arrive in Türkiye

The hospital does these. They are included in your package and usually take one morning.

  • Blood tests

A blood count, clotting profile, blood sugar, and screening for hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV. Standard before any operation, and usually done the morning you arrive.

  • Donor area examination and graft count

The final number of grafts is decided here, in person, not from photographs.

  • Hairline design with the doctor

Drawn on your head and agreed with you before anything starts. Say what you think at this point — afterwards is too late.

What the doctor will ask you

Worth thinking about before the consultation. Clear answers here save a day.

  • When did the hair loss start, and how quickly has it moved?
  • Does hair loss run in your family, and on which side?
  • Are you using minoxidil, finasteride or any hair treatment now?
  • Have you had a transplant before? How many grafts, and where?
  • Do you have diabetes, thyroid problems or any skin condition on the scalp?
  • Do you take blood thinners or aspirin?
  • Do you smoke?

You do not have to do this alone

Every patient is different. Once the doctor has read your file they may ask for one or two more things before confirming your plan — that is normal, and it is a sign your case is being looked at properly rather than waved through. If it happens, we tell you exactly what is needed and why, and you will see it added to this list.

If you cannot get a test at home, tell us. Most of them can be done in Türkiye instead, and we will arrange it.
