What the doctor will need from you
So there are no surprises. This is the usual list for this treatment.
Before you travel
Things to gather at home. Photographs of documents are fine — they do not need to be originals.
- The biopsy (pathology) report
This is the document that names the disease. Everything — the operation, the team, the order of treatment, the price — is planned from it. If slides or blocks from the biopsy are available, bring them; the pathology is often reviewed again here.
- Your scans: CT, MRI or PET, files not just reports
The scans say where the disease is and where it is not, which decides whether surgery comes first or after other treatment.
- Reports from any previous surgery or treatmentIf you have it
What was done before decides what can be done now. Photographs of the reports are fine.
- A list of every medicine you take
Blood thinners, diabetes medicine and some supplements change how the operation is planned, and a few have to be paused beforehand.
After you arrive in Türkiye
The hospital does these. They are included in your package and usually take one morning.
- Your case is presented to the tumour board
Surgeon, oncologist, radiologist and pathologist agree the plan together — standard practice for cancer care, and the moment your final written plan and price are set.
- Updated scans, if yours are older than a few weeks
Cancer plans are only as good as the freshness of the map they are drawn on.
- Blood tests
A blood count, clotting profile, blood sugar, and screening for hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV. Standard before any operation, and usually done the morning you arrive.
- Heart trace (ECG)
Routine for anyone over forty or with a heart history, and quick to do.
- Anaesthesia assessment
The anaesthetist meets you before the operation to check your heart, chest and medicines, and to agree the plan with the surgeon.
What the doctor will ask you
Worth thinking about before the consultation. Clear answers here save a day.
- When and how was the cancer found?
- What did the biopsy show, in the exact words of the report?
- Have you had chemotherapy, radiotherapy or surgery for it already?
- Any weight loss, and how much over how long?
- How is your general strength — what does a normal day look like?
- Is there cancer in the family?
You do not have to do this alone
Every patient is different. Once the doctor has read your file they may ask for one or two more things before confirming your plan — that is normal, and it is a sign your case is being looked at properly rather than waved through. If it happens, we tell you exactly what is needed and why, and you will see it added to this list.
If you cannot get a test at home, tell us. Most of them can be done in Türkiye instead, and we will arrange it.
